Happy New Year 2012

Yes well it's been another year since I last blogged, so I consider this quite timely.

Happy New Year.

Lots of things done last year (just don't look for such things in my blog). Lots of things to do this year.

Biggest news? We bought a remote control inflatable floating shark to fly around the office. For Kicks. Maybe we are a bit bored?

That's about all really... unless someone wants to find me a house. For free. Ha!

Upgraded, finally

Yes, this blog indicates that I've upgraded to the latest version of Drupal, albeit in a slightly manual function. Oh well. Hopefully I won't have to do this again for a LONG time. Comparing and copying tables one by one isn't too nice...

Oh yes, Happy New Year, y'all.

Alpha Software

Well it can't really be trusted. Now I am stuck, with no upgrade path but to migrate the data manually. Great.

Christmas and Stuff

Well it's almost that time of year. Man, Christmas isn't fun. The usual combination of boring carols and the rediculous need to boost the retail economy and the pressures therein. Why do we bother complying with such traditions?

On unrelated news, I haven't dicsovered why the microSD card in my phone is randomly pretending to corrupt photos. They appear to copy off the device fine... so what's up? I know, a cheeky format should solve such issues, right? I guess it's probably because the card came with my KA08 "mini" iphone and is most likely inherently dodgy.

Blogging

Well it's pretty boring actually. After a handful of blogs and a flurry of activity, I'm back to neglecting this website again. Why I continue maintaining this site and update quarterly, I don't know.

Mapplets inside Mapplets... not possible

Yes, as per the title, it is not possible in Informatica PowerCenter 9.0.1 (and I assume earlier versions as well) to put a mapplet inside a mapplet. That's really annoying! The only reason I can see why you couldn't do it is because you could make infinite loops... I guess... but only if you are really stupid.

Another day, another blog

Amazing. Here it is.

Nothing too much to report at this stage, although I have to say getting up early sucks! Had to get up at 6.30 this morning to get to work by 7 (hah... so lazy I am). Leaving early in the arvo was the ticket but ... it never ends up that way. I'd rather start at 9 and leave a little after 5. Starting early only means you end up working until 4ish or 5ish anyways!

Oh yes, the whole point of getting in early was to get the Informatica PowerCenter 9.0.1 upgrade done. Yes, for those playing meeting bingo, we WENT LIVE. Hah.

Japan 2009 Blogs

Yes, they are finally online! After almost 18 months, you can view them here:

Quite sad really. No guarantees of the quality since I am basically just copying them from my notes. Could be some embarassing stuff in there. To quote Mr Bilsdon, Giddy up!

Drupal + ozrs 2010

Well, it turns out Drupal is actually more popular than I previously thought.
According to the official graph: http://drupal.org/project/usage/drupal
...there are over 300,000 sites using the current stable version of 6.x. The Alpha, version 7, which I am using, is about 1,000. That's still quite a lot I reckon.

Speaking of things Drupal, the plan is to complete the following "highly important" "missing bits" first:

First Blog on Drupal 7

Welcome to the new nisch.org which has been built using a popular CMS product *cough Drupal* and not my own code (for the first time ever).

There are few things missing in Drupal which my old site somehow managed to do:

  • Photo Gallery
  • Yell Box
  • Avatars for registered users
  • Images in articles/blogs including attachments

This is probably because I'm using Drupal 7 which is not really past the 'Alpha' stage... hah oh well. There may be issues. There may be bugs (I've found some already). Harden up.
