Yes, as per the title, it is not possible in Informatica PowerCenter 9.0.1 (and I assume earlier versions as well) to put a mapplet inside a mapplet. That's really annoying! The only reason I can see why you couldn't do it is because you could make infinite loops... I guess... but only if you are really stupid.
I attempted to drag an existing mapplet in Designer into my new mapplet and of course, rather than inserting it as an object, it opened it. Stupid interface. Who decided that a drag and drop should be used to copy or open depending on which folder you are in? It's not very intuitive at all.
If you think you are smart and go aha! I will copy and paste the mapplet instance from an existing mapping into your new mapplet... there is no prize for that, either. Instead you get a nice error message telling you that a mapplet cannot be pasted inside a mapplet.
*sigh* There goes my chance of cutting down the number of transformations and hence making the solution ever-so-slightly more complex. Oh well, at least it's better than the Workflow Monitor and Designer applications crashing randomly every couple of hours. Now THAT is really annoying. And you would think that such a problem would be fixed in the latest and greatest version? Nope.
And I won't even attempt to contact support regarding that one... I know how annoying intermittant issues are to solve, so I will continue on and put up with it. Save often. Best advice.
